Photography is one of the most important elements of any event. When I meet with brides, one of the first questions I ask is, "Who is your photographer?" Your photos (and video but we'll touch on why videography is important at another workshop) are one of the only tangible memories you will have to remind you of your wedding day. As a wedding planner, your photographer is important to me because their timeline needs directly impact the timeline I am creating for the day of. Connecticut is blessed to be home to so many amazing photographers like our official workshop photographer, Heidi of Heidi Hanson Photography.
I met Heidi at a photoshoot I coordinated for Beauty Entourage. Heidi is like a ray of sunshine whenever she is in the room. What really stood out to me about her is her ability to relate to anyone and capture them authentically and beautifully.
We are so lucky to have her capturing all of the beautiful details of our workshop. We're so excited to work with Heidi again and can't wait to see all of the gorgeous photos she captures.
What is your specialty?
Weddings, Engagements and Boudoir
How long have you been in business?
I started Heidi Hanson Photography back in 2009 with a partner. She has since left the business and I rebranded and focused specifically on weddings, which I really adore. I love getting to know couples before their wedding day. What better way to do this than at their engagement sessions or through boudoir. It is also a great way for couples to get to know me as well. I am a big goofball behind the camera, and I love having fun with my couples. We often end up being great friends after their weddings.
Who or what do you look to for inspiration?
I find inspiration in nature and being outdoors, it helps that I am always outside with my kids. My family brings me great inspiration as well. My husband travels quite a bit for work; to see his determination and drive for his career is a huge inspiration. I am also inspired by women in the wedding industry who have been hugely successful in growing their businesses while remaining positive and mentoring fellow women/competitors in the industry.
Who or what motivates you?
I think we all need motivation on certain levels, sometimes on a daily basis (just to get up out of bed, on a rainy drizzly day for instance lol). For me being different and unique is what motivates me. I change my hair color almost every month - there isn’t a color that I haven’t done!! I am motived by success and trying to do different things. Every wedding is completely different for me, because every couple is truly different. I love getting to know couples in front of the lens before I capture them behind the lens. Every couple interacts different, you never know how they are going to react when a camera is on them. Sometimes it may be a challenge if they are camera-shy, or think they ‘do not take good photos’ to me I say challenge on.
I love capturing the wedding day as it unfolds, especially the little moments that couples may miss, or that special interaction they have and want to remember it forever...yep that is what I absolutely love and it motivates me to keep making it better each time.
You want your products to inspire…?
I love my job, I get to meet couples as they are getting married and capture them when they are at the happiest moments in their life. So I want my products to inspire people to love their job as much as I do. I made the decision to leave a terrible desk job about three years ago to pursue my passion in the wedding industry and I haven’t regretted it one bit. Yes, it has been hard, challenging and frustrating at times...but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I love what I do, and I love all the couples that I work with, I am super lucky to have found a job that works for me. Taking risks is part of life and I hope to inspire people to follow their dreams and pursue a passion that they love.
