Our New Venue!

When things seem wrong, we make it into a right! In this case, our venue experienced some unexpected issues with town zoning and we had to go back to what seemed like square one. We can't have a Wifey For Life workshop without a location!

So what did we learn here? Why it's so important to hire a planner! When the venue shut down, it was devastating because we had built such a strong relationship and hype for the event. It was also a major curveball because of how many sponsors, guests, and plans we already had set in stone for the date. Thankfully, we tapped into our network and immediately our contacts went into full search mode to help us relocate. We were absolutely amazed how quickly a new venue landed in our lap, booked, ready, and stunning.

It really was a group effort for the Lauren O. team and out Wifey For Life Sponsors alike. Even the caterer for the event got involved to help pull together our beautiful new spot with less than a month from June 4th, our workshop date. This last minute change speaks volumes for the importance of working with professionals. The transparency of both our previous venue, our fellow vendors, and the integrity of the event depend on it.

This stunning venue offers our dream collaboration of rustic charm and modern styling. The space evokes the passion of fine craftsmanship and elegance of Napa Valley, CA. 

Approaching the main entrance, you will be greeted by a classic stone wall enclosing our pergola and patio area. All of the stonework in and around the clubhouse is original from the farmhouse. Upon walking into the building you can’t miss the impressive twenty-foot, hand-built stonework encasing the chimney and mantle area surrounding the fireplace. The variance in color that gives each stone its rare look harkens back to the more than 225 years of fires they were seasoned from. Much of the original woodwork from the farmhouse can be seen throughout Silver Oak including the large hand cut beams that surround the main entrance and bar, to the reclaimed wood on the walls and custom built farmhouse tables. We have created a truly exceptional gathering area that incorporates old world charm mixed with modern innovation, including our state of the art sound system and lighting, as well as the little touches such as the 25-year-old cabernet vine hanging above the fireplace which was brought in from Cakebread Vineyard, one of Megan’s favorites.

Introduce yourself!  Who you are, interesting facts about you and your business. How long you have been in the business.

My name is Karina Alvarez and I am a certified Event Designer and MBA professional. I currently own EZ-Occasions, a family-owned Event Design and Rentals business. We offer event rentals and premier event design services for weddings, corporate and social events in New England. My team specializes in ceiling draping, backdrops, wall liners, tent draping, table styling, stage draping and much more.  We have been in business for almost a year.

Who or what do you look to for inspiration? Blogs, nature, your family? 

Given my international background (Born in Peru and lived in 3 countries) and passion for traveling, I find my inspiration in each one of my trips. I have visited 22 countries and each one of them gives me the inspiration to innovate and imagine the endless possibilities for event design. 

You want your products (business, service) to inspire? 

Absolutely! Inspiration is a key part of what we do. When designing, our goal is to create a sense of emotion and inspiration. 

Why your business? Why should brides work with you?

Brides should work with me not only because we provide innovative designs and high quality rentals at competitive prices but because my intuition, and creative thought process will make me envision a couple’s celebration and make it come through. I focus on creating intuitive relationships with couples and translating their lifestyles and personalities into extraordinary celebrations.

To you, what is the most important detail a couple should incorporate into their wedding day? 

Without a doubt, all couples should incorporate their personality into their wedding day.  My goal is to create and design a space that reflects a couple’s personality, evokes emotion and carries lifelong memories. 


Wifey for Life - FAQ

It's that time again! We're gearing up for our next Wifey for Life workshop! This one is extra special because it's being held in our new event and office space, Events on Main. We are working on so many amazing things and cannot wait to share it with the ladies attending the workshop. I’ve gotten a few emails asking questions that I never thought of while putting together materials for the workshop. So, this post is dedicated to answering a few questions about the workshop and as well as filling you in on a few new details.

DO I HAVE TO BE ENGAGED TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOPS?

Absolutely not! I understand that many ladies, such as myself, begin planning for their wedding well in advance of the actual ring. This is a no judgement zone! If you’re “preplanning”, we’re cool with that. At least when you actually get the ring, you’ll be well informed. If you are engaged and want to bring your single bestie for the experience, do it! We have a specially priced ticket just for them!

WHAT WILL BE DISCUSSED?

This is truly an educational workshop. Come prepared to discuss everything related to wedding stationery, branding your wedding paper and calligraphy. The majority of the material will be about trends, design, customization and what’s available to brides. Our speakers are the best in the business and will provide insight and valuable information to assist you in your wedding planning. Molly will also lead the group in a hands on calligraphy workshop and fill us in on the different styles of calligraphy and hand lettering. 

WHY DOES THIS COST? MOST BRIDAL SHOWS ARE FREE!

Yes. But this isn't like most bridal shows. Wifey for Life is an interactive, informative and fun workshop! We go above and beyond to personally vet each speaker and sponsor so that you are given information from trusted wedding professionals. We never accept money from our speakers as a way to protect the integrity of the workshop and the speakers are not paid to participate. We charge a fee to cover the cost of the venue, advertisement and other goodies. 

IT GOES FROM 11 - 3ISH…DO I HAVE TO STAY THE ENTIRE TIME?

No way! Our brunch begins at 11am, however if you want to come just for the swag bag and workshop…that’s cool! We understand that people are busy and Sundays can get crazy. Your ticket reserves your seat, guarantees you a swag bag as well as the brunch and mixer after the workshop. Attend what you are able to, if nothing, register for the swag!! It’s amazing!

AM I OBLIGATED TO BOOK WITH ANY OF THE VENDORS?

No! This is not a vendor bridal show; it is purely educational. You are not obligated in any way to book with any vendors or speakers and you will not be sold anything!

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO BE DOING?

So excited that you asked! We’ll kick things off with a brunch at 11am. Register, grab your swag bag, stop by our step and repeat and take a few photos with Heidi Hanson Photography. Around 11:30, I’ll play a fun game with you to help you discover your wedding style. After that we'll begin our workshop with a break in between and a few other fun games. Once the workshop wraps up stay and mingle with our speakers and get to know the other brides in attendance. 

DO I HAVE TO PREREGISTER TO ATTEND?

Yes. The gifts are personalized so we’d like to know how many ladies will be attending and what your names are so that we can have your special gift ready for you.

HOW WILL THIS HELP ME?

This workshop will help you understand what options are available to you, what they cost and how you can customize different facets of your wedding to fit your personal style. The purpose of these workshops is for you to gain a better understanding of what goes into planning a wedding and for the vendors involved to gain a better appreciation of what your needs as a bride are.

Wifey for Life Full Day Workshop Recap Part 1

We held our very first full day workshop on April 26, 2015 at the beautiful Town and County Club

I began the workshop by speaking to the purpose of Wifey for Life. As you can see, I love public speaking. I especially love speaking about Wifey for Life. It is always a challenge to fully explain how different Wifey for Life is from the typical vendor bridal show. I understand the hesitation brides have so I always take time in the beginning to talk about our purpose...and tell a few jokes.

After my stand up routine, Mary Beth of Capture Photography opened the workshop. Her presentation "Insider Secrets to Your Perfect Wedding Photos." was full of amazingly informative content for brides that are still looking for a photographer and those that have already booked a photographer. Mary Beth's presentation was a favorite amongst all of our guests. In case you can't tell, I adore MB! Not only did she gives tips on how to get totally awesome wedding photos, she let our Wifeys know that sometimes the best moments are not planned and to just go with the flow. I plan to pretty much stalk MaryBeth and have her speak at every full day workshop, so if you missed this one, make sure you stay tuned to the blog so that you too can find out how to get totally kick ass wedding photos.

Up next was Megan of, The Wedding Embassy. What always impresses me most about Megan and WE is the level of knowledge and sweet connections that she has of and in the world of bridal. Megan's presentation was on "Wedding Day Disasters." It truly was a fresh way to present content above and beyond the normal "This is a pretty dress, this pretty dress costs..." Megan instead spoke to how you can be prepared for the "what ifs" and "oh no's" that are bound to happen on the day of. I won't give all her secrets away (you'll have to come to our workshop for that!) but I can tell you that safety pins save lives and bustles; and duck tape goes a long way. We made sure to gift each Wifey that attended with a sweet mini day of emergency kit, complete with safety pins. 

Stay tuned for part two! Up next we learned about some beauty tips and tricks from hair savant, Ashley Stone of Beauty Entourage. And Denise of The Persnickety Bride came ready to tell us all about stationery, favors and gifts as well as The Royal Family.
